The periosteum is a highly specialized tissue microenvironment. Periosteal cells regulate the strength of bones by controlling bone width and the ability of bones to heal after fracture. This seminar focuses on the importance of BMP2 signaling in regulating periosteal cell function during growth in width and during fracture healing.
