Health Informatics and Management Science
Graduate Program
The graduate program in Health Informatics and Management Science, initiated in 2011, aims at preparing individuals with academic interests and background education in different areas - such as medicine, nursing, computing, law, engineering, economics, mathematics, and administration - for knowledge generation and dissemination from researches on health informatics and management science.
The basic objective of the program is to form highly qualified researchers and teachers who, in a coordinated and synergistic manner, address researches in health informatics, management model analysis and information and communication technology from a perspective that gathers cross and multidisciplinary aspects. Associated, these two components - health informatics and management science - propose the development of skills and abilities to face current challenges in the healthcare system. In this case, information and technology represent power and evolution keys.
We assume that those who know how to better manage the available resources will know how to efficiently and effectively use them, assessing how much and where to invest for the economic return to enable even greater advances in the population’s healthcare. In this context, graduates should be able to connect scientific advances of the health computer science and health management, converting the results of studies into concrete proposals for changes and improvement in clinical practice, scientific teaching and healthcare inovation.
As variables that influence decision making in this area, we have modern Brazilian society demands, technological and communication resources development, economic analysis to better use such resources, and scientific methods and results from national and international experiences. The respect for ethical and legal principles is one of the bases of the program.
