Viruses, virus-like particles, and extra cellular vesicles are the next generation biopharmaceuticals. They are used as gene-therapy vectors and in onco-therapy. Virus-like particles are also promising candidates for vaccines, especially for the emerging and reemerging viral infections. Genetic vaccination to evoke exosomes is another strategy for vaccination. An overview will be provided about the production of viruses and virus-like particles and extra cellular vesicles intended for therapy and vaccines. Purification strategies will be described and then own results on purification and characterization of enveloped virus -like particles such influenza virus-like particles will be shown. The in-process control methods will be also addressed. An outlook will be provided on the challenges and open questions for rapid development of integrated process to produce viruses and virus-like particles and extra cellular vesicles

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Alois Jungbauer, Institute of Bioprocess Science and Engineering, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology

Moderators: Prof. Dr. Igor Bresolin, professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering (Unifesp), and Prof.ª Dr.ª Iara Bresolin, professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering (Unifesp)
